NBA trade rumors continue to headline the news as of late. And one team who is being frequently mentioned to rumor mills nowadays is the Cleveland Cavaliers. Recent reports are saying that they might get Tyson Chandler from the Phoenix Suns before the trade deadline expires.
Chandler has been the hot topic of rumor mills the past few days. Latest news has linked him to being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. However, the Blazers have already denied that are interested in acquiring him.
On the other hand, the Cavs have a splendid showing at the start of the ongoing regular season. Currently, they are at the top of the Eastern Conference standing holding a 28-10 win-loss record which quite expected to them. But, one report stated that there are still flaws on their roster that needs to be fill up.
King James Gospel reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers is definitely one of the best teams in the league today but there are still holes that need to be addressed. And one of those gaps that they badly needed is an able big man who can protect the rim for them. And it seems that Tyson Chandler could be a viable option for them.
Being a former Defensive Player of the Year, Chandler perfectly fits to what the Cavs are looking for. A proven veteran player who is known for his tough defense inside the paint and immense rebounding skills, he will surely upgrade the interior defense of the Cavs. But who will the Cavs offer to the Phoenix Suns?
According to FOXSports, one possible trade scenario between the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers that could work is a direct swap between Tyson Chandler and Iman Shumpert. But as per checking with ESPN NBA Trade Machine, this trade will not be successful due to Chandler’s high salary.
Unless the Cavs will use Anderson Varejao’s trade exception worth $9.64 million, the deal will now work under NBA trade and salary cap rules. This trade will give both teams benefits as the Suns will be able to free some space on an overcrowded frontcourt while giving the Cavs a useful big man as per stated in the report.
