Robbie Avila & The March Madness Revolution: Why This Underdog is a Must-Watch

Robbie Avila and The Mid-Major Takeover are changing the game in the NCAA Tournament. The road to the Final Four is not about the big name schools. We are looking at the game plans and the spotlight is on the smart players and the smaller programs that can cause some upsets. From Robbie Avilas playing to VCUs tough defense here is what you need to know about college basketball right now.

  1. Robbie Avila is on fire. If you have not seen him play you are missing out. He is the all-around player in the country. Avila is not about putting up big numbers he is the heart of his team.

He is really good at shooting from away making 41% of his shots from beyond the arc. This makes him a big threat to teams.

His scoring average gets better every year so he is still getting better.

Robbie Avila is a leader on the court his teammates trust him when the game is on the line.

  1. VCU is a team to watch. They are a school but they can play with the big boys. VCU is not about winning they are about making their players better.

Their system is designed to help each player do their best while still playing defense. They are one of the disciplined teams in the league.

  1. There are some games coming up with teams like Kansas and Alabama playing.

Ca’Baptist is a player who can make a difference he is strong and can handle the tough teams.

Alabama has a chance to do well because some of the top teams are hurt. They work well together. Can beat anyone.

Thomas Houc is a player that the NBA scouts are watching he is good, at defense. Can play many positions.

The “X” Factor: Refereeing and Consistency

One of the issues this season is how referees are calling games. In tournament games soft foul calls can quickly change how the game is going. For teams like Missouri that use defense figuring out what the referees will call is just as key as shooting well.

Final Take

This years tournament is looking really unpredictable. Some teams have players who have worked together for a time and have great chemistry. Other teams have stars, like Avila who could make a big impact. Get your brackets ready.

What would you do if you are given a chance to lead NCCA?

Assuming I was qualified, I’d start by looking at its mission. That’s supposed to explain why it was founded and what role it was meant to play.

Then I’d have conversations/round tables with many different constituencies:

President/VP/Cabinet. What role do they see for the NCCA play in modern society? Are there ways to work with other agencies to accomplish shared goals?

Budget/Fundraising. I’d need accurate numbers to determine priorities. I’d need to meet with fundraisers and marketers to supplement the official budget. Are there program-specific sources of funding? Are there sources of international funds?

Community/Rural/Underserved populations. What needs can the NCCA fill for the community? Are there ways to increase educational opportunities? Are there specific cultures who are underserved? Is there a need to train people in conservation and restoration?

How can the NCCA help the performing arts reach smaller communities and underserved populations? How can we get young people interested in the arts? How do we inspire them? Then what are the pathways to get the most talented into programs to train them?

My immediate goals would be finances, current programs and staff development. I believe in delegation with responsibility and transparency. The responsibility must match the authority given. I’d want to be kept informed on projects and potential concerns. I’ll follow budgets closely and expect my staff to alert me to potential liabilities.

Lastly, the NCCA leader is the public face of the institution. In that role, my personal and political opinions would remain private. I’d create an office to coordinate with political officials at all levels.

I’d want citizens to understand what the agencies are doing and what our priorities are. I’d want to hear the public’s ideas and concerns. I’d have my most trusted staff members working on trouble-shooting reports from the public. They are an early-warning system for potential problems.

That’s a little about the approach I’d take. Thanks for asking this question. It’s been fun imagining the scenario.

What is the full form of NCA?

Narmada Control Authority—The Narmada Control Authority (NCA) has been setup under the final orders and decision of the Narmada Water Disputes Tribunal (NWDT) as a machinery for implementation of its directions and decision.
